Spikenard is also known as nard, nardin & muskroot is a amber colored essential oil obtained from flowering plant called Nardostachys jatamansia, which grows in Himalayas of Nepal, china & India, it grows up to 1m in height & has bell shaped flowers which are white in color. The thickness & no. of rhizomes depends on age of plant. The rhizome of plant is so aromatic that when plants are uprooted from the soil, their warm, sweet fragrance spreads out in air.

EXTRACTION
Spikenard oil is obtained by crushing the underground stems called rhizomes of Nardostachys jatamansia & distilled into aromatic amber colored essential oil.

PROPERTIES
It has woody fragrance which is aromatic, warm & sensual.

The main chemical components are acevalejonon,tetramenthyloxatricylodecanol, menthylthymyl-ether and 1,8-cineol.
